RELEVANT COURSEWORK
As a student at the University of Alabama, I am often given the opportunity to fine tune my writing and editing in a supportive, scholarly environment. These are a few of my favorite academic projects.
JCM 315:
ADVANCED NEWS WRITING AND REPORTING
Spring 2019
In this class taught by Cheryl Wray, I was given the opportunity to write and revise five news stories centered around a beat. My reporting beat was education, which allowed me to connect with teachers, students, and administrators from Tuscaloosa-area schools in order to craft relevant stories about what affects K-12 education in the city and county systems.
JCM 331: INTRODUCTION TO ELECTRONIC REPORTING
Fall 2018
Part of the Journalism and Creative Media core curriculum, Intro to Electronic Reporting familiarizes a student with the basics of writing for broadcast. As a student in JCM 331, I was given the opportunity to work with a Zoom Q8 camera to shoot and edit a VO, VO/SOT, and PKG.
JCM 303: NEWSWRITING AND REPORTING
Fall 2018
JCM 303 places a focus on print journalism, though broadcast is briefly addressed. The class seeks to educate students in the elements of AP Style and analyzing news values. Taught by journalist and instructor Tom Arenberg, the course prioritizes both hard and soft newswriting, resulting in a well-rounded print journalism student.
JCM 102: FUNDAMENTALS OF MEDIA TECHNOLOGY
